A Tower of Life
Built on more than four decades of forward-looking traditions and a unique paternal culture, the U.B. Science High School is like a tower molded with the lives and thoughts of its students and graduates.
Way back in 1963, upon graduating from the sixth grade, some students all over Baguio took a special test. The students who passed were put together in one class. Composed of 39 brilliant students, the class was called the Special Science Scholars Section (SSSS). Since then, an annual scholarship exam was being administered for the best and the brightest pupils. In 1967, the first batch of intellectually gifted students graduated, it was also the same year the U.B. Science High School was born.
The University of Baguio Science High School placed first in the list of Top Ten performing schools in the Cordillera and Ilocos regions based on consistently high scores in the National Secondary Achievement Test (NSAT) results. Beyond academic excellence, the school is also home to outstanding athletes and artists who have won awards from various regional and national competitions.
A Culture of Excellence
The U.B. Science High School is not only the first school of its kind in Asia, it is also home to a pioneering spirit that has made a tangible mark in the community: The first true high school varsity team, the Greyhounds, is well known in the local sporting circles. The first true mixed youth choir in Baguio, the Sonus Juventus. The first socially relevant programs conducted in a secondary school, the Immersion Camps and Outreach, were started in the Science High.
The school has continuously received awards and citations in local, regional, and national competitions like the National PressCon, Philippine Science Fair, the YMCA Academic Olympics, the Math Olympiad, U.P. Gawad Tala and SIRIB Quiz Show, Inter-School Speech Competition, and other notable tournaments.
